EarnewâldPosted by Illuci (Hurdegaryp, Netherlands) on 31 May 2007 in Transportation and Portfolio. Two skûtsjes (pronounce: scutches, with the u of butcher). These are old, traditional boats used for cargo and other work until around 1950 when their sails lost the competition with the engine, so these skûtsjes are between 75 and 100 years old but kept in perfect traditional condition because of the annual skûtsje-races held in the summer, one of the greatest events in Friesland.
