Map Butterfly

Posted by Illuci (Hurdegaryp, Netherlands) on 19 June 2007 in Animal & Insect.

The map butterfly (lit. translation of its Dutch name) has its name because its wings look like a map. The funny thing about the animal is that there are two generations annually. In spring they look very different from the late summer generation. It's not seen that often so I was glad to "catch" it in our garden, the picture dates from April.
