Sinterklaas (Late Fall 7 of 7)

Posted by Illuci (Hurdegaryp, Netherlands) on 18 November 2007 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

I scarificed for today a beautiful fall picture in a park which I will show later on. I did so because today His Holiness St. Nicholas arrived in our village Hurdegaryp. He has more or less the same role as SantaClaus has in the USA, but is in no way related to Christmas. His "birthday" is celebrated on 6 December, in the evening before presents ("surprises") are exchanged. Not the expensiveness or material value of the presents are appreciated, but their originality. Poems and songs accompany St. Nicholas everywhere. He has lots of "Black Peters" as his servants who are charged with the distribution of the presents. Grownups celebrate his birthday too, but his special friends are the children.

My brother has recently opened his aminus3 photoblog, everybody is cordially invited to see his lovely pictures on http://lightwriter.aminus3.com. Many of them are really terrific and he is a real acquistion to the quality of aminus3!
