In our street we had set up a tent where we could get warm wine and chocolate, wishing each other happy new year. Here you get an idea of the mist which gives a special effect. I brought somebody home by car at around 1 AM, and I had to completely rely on the white middle-of-the-road lines, and drive at pedestrian's speed.
Later I read that the fog's thickness was caused by the fireworks being lit everywhere in all villages and cities. It caused an enormous amount of microscopic particles in the air, giving water damp the opportunity to form microscopic mist drops. So the weather was already misty, but the mist was enhanced by the fire works.

Loads of moody atmosphere in this photo. Very well done...and an interesting explanation.

@Jeff: Thanks, Jeff!
Yep, and in Apeldoorn we lived at the 6th floor (meaning panoramic view around 10 to 15 km) so we were expect the fireworks and boom around 11 something a very thick mist, vision barelly 2m top when the fireworks starts, I came down the street even in that case no vision at all (in the street in my own neighborhood I feel in danger) So de facto it was an memorable new year eve.

@Pouhou: What a pity! I hope next year it will be clearer, in our village there are no high buildings, but like you in a city could have made terrific pictures from the 6th or 12th floor of an apartment building.
An eerie shot, well done!
