As skewed as the tower of Pisa Dutch saying, meaning very skewed
When I read the Aminus3 article on how to turn a color picture into B and W, I practised the advices on this picture by using color filters.

@ajoeh: Terima kasih, Ajoeh!
Haha, what a funny saying. That building is beautiful though, although slightly tilted. :) You know, I actually don't think I've ever mentioned this, but I'm actually part Dutch. A neat little bit of trivia about me.

@e.: Being Dutch or half Dutch is not a trivia, e. :) Though, "Dutch" doesn't sound very positive in English, an heritage of the Dutch-English sea wars (Michiel de Ruyter who sailed on the Thames, breaking the chains that had been stretched from bank to bank to stop his ships, which failed). "Dutch uncle", "Dutch treat", "going Dutch" etc. Please be convinced that all this doesn't make sense. New York has been bought bt the British from the Dutch (Peter Stuyvesant) in exchange for Surinam, the most stupid swop the Dutch ever made in their history. Harlem (Haarlem) and Brooklyn (Breukelen) and even the word Yankees (Jan-Kees) are from Dutch origin and we are proud of that. (And what about coleslaw, and maybe there are more American words derived from Dutch). Thanks to have come out of the closet, e.!
Perfect in B&W, love the way the tree to the left really adds dimension to this, also the reflection is wonderful, 3 great factors in a photo :)

@Lorraine: Thanks Lorraine!
nice I recommend more contrast

@eddy: Thanks Eddy, I tried but didn't succeed in getting more contrast without losing structure and detail. It was how the weather was that day: not totally clear with very light clouds so the sun could shine only through a kind of veil.
nicely done and Good B&W photo , thank you .

Very nice

i like the tree that "surrounds" the tower on the left with it's huge trunk and on the left with it's tiny twigs.

@the lightwriter: Yes, the tower looks a bit vulnerable, so tilted, and the tree wants to protect it :). Thanks for the comment!
Beautiful. The tonal quality is great, and the undertones of the horns reflect off the oboe wonderfully. Ting.

@Seraphine: Thanks, Seraphine, for this poetic response! (I think it's too much for this humble B&W experiment)
Nicely framed and I think you did a great job with the filters Erik. I can see what you mean about the tower, it certainly does lean over.
5 Feb 2008 10:25am
@MaryB: The filter operation is quite difficult: an improvement in one part causes often a deterioriation in another part. I wanted to have the contrast a bit higher, but this caused unacceptable black shadowing of the green bushes. After all I'm satisfied with the result because of the light greys, like with a pencil drawing, contrasting with the rather strong B&W texture of the bark.
Zeer goede samenstelling, mon ami Erik!

@Wolfgang Prigge: Dank je wel, ik ben blij dat je me vriend noemt :)
très belle photo en B&W :-)

You are so right, Erik, because Italy is not the only place known for it's tilting structures! I have seen enough in Amsterdam alone to make a book of such photos. I love it! :) And I REALLY love all your Dutch sayings. I'm learning a lot from them. :)

Tiz a grand shot to show how this building is leaning.
