Leeuwarden II #3: Entrance Underground Garage

Like the old sung, so peep the young
Dutch proverb, meaning that our ancestors gave a good example, taken over by the young trying to reach the same level but not totally succeeding.
I found the English translation which I made myself, very well running, even rhyming; I only hope that it's acceptable English because one would expect in normal language "so the young peep".

Dear AM3 friends, thanks very much for your encouraging comments in our global photo gallery where the masters themselves are always there to speak to.

The same tower as yesterday, seen from the other side, together with the entrance of the underground parking garage, which is a blessing for the view on the tower, because 2 years ago all cars were parked on the now empty place. It's really a miracle of water and construction engineering to build an underground parking garage on this wet spot (you saw the nearness of water yesterday) without damaging the leaning tower! I like the harmony between old and new here. Notice the similarity of colors and texture in the tower and the new pavement.

@Lorraine: I think the structure of the street is also value-adding, otherwise the stairs would pop up too sudden :)

Goed-gedaan Erik! I suppose the tower leans because of the waterlogged earth it wasc built on?

@Wolfgang Prigge: Thanks Wolfgang. Yes, the architect was used to hard soil (Eiffel area, Germany) and was dismissed after the tower started to lean during building. You can notice that halfway the builders tried to correct the leaning, there is a slight curb so that the upper half is less leaning than the lower half. The tower was planned to become a normal tower without the cut-off upper part you see now, but that wasn't possible, too dangerous.

Almost everything in Holland that is built underground amazes me, Erik. Above ground, too (like Schiphol airport!), since it all used to be under water. Very clever architecture AND engineering. You can be proud!

Could it be another Pisa Tower:), I'm sure it is leaning to the right (from this view of course) since the smaller building stands 'normally', nice shot.
