Hurdegaryp: rusted "wind engine"

Posted by Illuci (Hurdegaryp, Netherlands) on 28 February 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

"Like the wind blows, so is his jacket blown."
Dutch proverb, meaning: he has no own opinion, says whatever is suitable for the situation.

Just left from the windmill you see traces of houses at the horizon, it's the neighborhood where I live.

The name "wind engine" is the traditional farmers' jargon for this kind of windmills, used for keeping the water at the right level. They disappear more and more from the landscape, often not removed but left to a destiny of decay.
