Hurdegaryp: storm yn 't reidlân

Posted by Illuci (Hurdegaryp, Netherlands) on 7 March 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

"The first thunder of March grabs the tail of the elft" ("De eerste donder in maart, grijpt de elft bij zijn staart.")
Dutch proverb, meaning: the first thunderstorm of March announces the arrival of the elft. The elft is a kind of big fish in our rivers (Rhine, Meuse) that disappeared there due to pollution completely around 1920, but since 2004 is gradually returning again.

In English the title is "Storm in the reedland".

It's striking how the wave patterns resemble the waves on the ocean, the only difference is that these ones are of course much smaller, they are mini-models of their ocean "colleagues".
