Today is Good Friday, the day Christians celebrate the passion and death of Jesus Christ. The emotions this evokes are in no deeper way interpreted than in Johann Sebastian Bach's St. Matthew Passion. I attended this choir and orchestra performance in the Jacobskerk in Leeuwarden. You see the boys of the Leeuwarden Boys Choir assisting the other choir down them (not visible here) and the orchestra, all under conduction of my colleague Harm Witteveen. Tomorrow you'll see more.

I particularly like the composition, with the low and high elements nicely balanced. In fact, it looks like the Dutch landscapes you often show us -- flat land, low buildings, and a very large sky. An indoor landscape? Maybe . . .

Beautifully captured Erik, I can almost hear their sweet voices as they sing this glorious piece. A Happy Easter to you and yours Erik.

I'm sure the music was uplifting! As is the simplicity of this composition!
