After the funeral and condoleances I returned from Eersel to Frieslan via another route than I use to. This brought me along the beautiful small town of Ravenstein, where my deceased friend and I as members of a students' association once (in 1967) took part in an open air students' party with much "food and beverage" also for the inhabitants of the old town. There were speeches by the mayor and other VIPs also: those were the days! The town is a must for every tourist visiting our province of Brabant. It was as if my deceased friend gave me a present, because it was just the right time (20 minutes before sunset) and the sky was clean. I was able to make a beautiful couple of pictures, too less because of the soon falling dusk, but I will return that's for sure.

Even with the traffic rolling across the bridge, it looks a very peaceful scene. I like the simple practicality of the bridge, it seems to blend effortlessly into the landscape. And the reflection in the river is georgous.

@MaryB: The A50 is only 2 years old and I think the designers proceeded according to the newest insights in how to integrate objects such as these in the landscape as smoothly as possible. I also think a modest design suits best here, whereas in cities a showier design will be on its place. I find this one of my best pictures in my own eyes, this is the kind of images I strive for. Some keywords: majestic, grand, contemplative, modest, traditional, atmosphere. I think that the landscape has an impact on people’s minds and even cultures, far more than we are inclined to assume. I see it as a challenge to investigate this further, maybe a nice pastime for my retirement?
My condolenses on your friend. Very serene shot. The dusk lighting and calm waters with the reflection add to the feeling.
