I very much appreciate how Japanese people deal with one another - much more polite than we Dutch do. I remember having read Japanese reports about Dutch merchants visiting Japan in the 18th century: they were clumsy, ugly and brutal people and they smell. I can imagine these qualifications considering the refined manners of Japanese culture. On the other hand, the Japanese appreciated the knowledge of the Dutch in water management: several Dutch engineers designed and managed water control systems in Japanese areas. Now we know that all cultures have their own ways to deal with each other and their environment. I like the similar hats they wore that day: it symbolizes something binding as a group abroad, and it's also Japanese because the hats are of a modest color and shape (The Dutch would wear orange caps or something conspicuous :).

Mooi!

Well... sorry to disappoint you, believe me the world is all different when beeing in Tokyo! I was actually shocked how rude they were at the airport... But this might be the "Big City" syndrom :)

A wonderful series Erik, these are amazing structures. Thank you for sharing them with us. There used to be a Windmill in the village where I live, I only remember it slightly, as it as demolished in the 60's :(

Am enjoying this series -- and yes that's a very Japanese crowd indeed. Those hats are very popular on days off. Glad they weren't rude!

Nothing like the imposing silent presence of a windmill! I like their sturdy silhouettes facing time and the elements with stoic patience. (Most interesting for me HERE to read your comments about Japanese, you being OVER THERE.)

I think this really gives one the perspective of the size of the windmill and also love the numerous ones in the background. Nice shot!
I might add, I like orange.
