Ravenstein Brink

Posted by Illuci (Hurdegaryp, Netherlands) on 26 August 2008 in Cityscape & Urban.

The "Brink" (=central square) of the small town Ravenstein on the border of the Meuse. Ravenstein exudes totally the Southern-European atmosphere present roughly in the area dominated by the ancient Roman Empire. North of the big Rivers Meuse and Rhine which divide the Netherlands in two one notices immediately the more serious, Calvinistic lifestyle and architecture. You find there no places like this with all these flags, this kind of pavement etc. except in Amsterdam, which was heavily invaded by Southern immigrants in the 16th and 17th century.
